harvest of the day

The fresh flower season has begun! The first blooms of bulbs like daffodils and tulips are joined by perennials like hellebores, forsythia, and eucalyptus.

Some flowers, such as daffodils and hellebores, need a little extra care.

We’ve noticed that some peony-flowered tulips can bend or break after a few days in a vase — the blooms are just so heavy. Hopefully, yours will hold up just fine, but just in case, we added a few extra stems this week.

Hellebores, on the other hand, are very thirsty flowers but sometimes struggle to absorb water through their stems. That’s why you’ll notice small incisions on the sides of the stems when they arrive—these help improve moisture absorption. If they appear a bit limp (their naturally drooping shape is not a sign of distress), you can use this technique to encourage better hydration.
